San Francisco Swing Top by Sew Caroline

A few weeks ago Caroline, over at Sew Caroline offered to send me a pattern to review. She has lots of patterns that are cute and comfy. Since we were deep into summer in the south, I picked the San Francisco Swing Top and Dress pattern. I had been wanting to try out a swing dress. It just seems so breezy and comfy for the hot sticky weather we were having.

Megan Neilsen Reef Pajama Set

I haven't yet gotten a chance to share this pajama set I made this summer. This is the Reef Camisole and Shorts Set from Megan Neilsen Patterns, which was just released a few months ago. They are my new favorite jammies!

I love that these look elegant and beautiful, yet they are so comfy. They are just a bit sexy, but everything that needs to be covered stays covered. The crossover back is a genius design that keeps the straps in place. The pattern also comes with options for shorts with a slightly longer hem and pockets! I made version 3 (shorter shorts with no pockets).

I made these in a black rayon challis. The challis works perfect for this pattern. It has great drape and a bit of a sheen which I love. It does wrinkle a bit, which I worried about when I chose the fabric, but it turns out it does wrinkle as much as I thought it would and it actually doesn't bother me.

I modified the pattern just a little by removing 1/2" in length from the shoulder straps (both front and back). Luckily I made a muslin, which I definitely recommend, because the construction of the straps and yoke would make this modification difficult once you start sewing. I am quite a bit shorter than the designer drafts for, so this wasn't a surprise. I also brought the width in at the top 2 inches of the side seam to eliminate some armscye gaping (this is an easy modification to make after pattern is sewn together, though.)

I love that since I started sewing, my pajama drawer is much nicer than it used to be! And more comfortable!

Back to blogging?

Hey readers! Is anyone still around. I took a bit of a break from blogging over the summer. Things just get too crazy with trips and kids home from school. I am hoping to get back to blogging occasionally now that the kids are back in school. I made some fun things over the summer that I would love to share with you. I have been posting on instragram, so if you follow me over there, you may have seen some of my makes. (You can follow me here).

Here's a preview of some things I plan to feature.

Wear to Where Wedding Guest Style

It's time for another round of the Wear to Where Tour! The tour is hosted by Wild and Wanderful and Gardening in High Heels. Each day poses a different theme, like a location or a particular type of outing, and then both fashion bloggers and sewing bloggers show off an outfit to go along with the theme. There is so much great inspiration for all those summer outings!

Today's theme features Summer Wedding fashion. I sewed up a wedding guest dress and got to wear it to a friend's wedding.

Sewing Socks with The Wolf and the Tree

Did you know that you can sew socks? I would not have expected that I could sew socks, but when I was invited to join the Blog Tour for The Wolf and The Tree, I was given the pattern for the Adult Going Rogue Socks, and I was excited to give them a try.
